It may seem far fetched for me to tell you to take one special day out from your limited days in Delhi and invest it in the neighbouring city of Ghaziabad, and which is why I would not force you to do so. But if you do really wish to visit the city on your own, here are the fine things you can expect from the city.
Ghaziabad is one of the top commercial and industrial cities lying around the national capital of New Delhi. Its accessibility to New Delhi by the Delhi metro has made it possible for people living in Ghaziabad to commute to work in Delhi and vice versa on a daily basis. Going by the metro requires you to change your train on some stations and proves to be time consuming and it is always packed. The best way to reach Ghaziabad is to simply take the Delhi to Ghaziabad cab, where you can easily reach the city in an air conditioned car.
Before you plan on visiting Ghaziabad, you will have to bear in mind that there is nothing much to see in the city unlike Delhi. You are visiting there for the sheer experience of the city. To make your visit worthwhile, here are some of the places you should see and do what little is there in the city on your visit there.
Chillum Bar and lounge
One of the only decent bars you can find in Ghaziabad, the food served here in the Chillum Bar and Lounge are the usual north Indian specialities like kadai paneer, tandooris and tikkas. You can order for some indo-Chinese food as well which can be found on the menu. The place has a decent ambience and is the favorite place to hangout for youngsters and young working professionals. It is located in EDM (East Delhi Mall) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Shopping in Ghaziabad
As opposed to what you may be thinking, shopping in Ghaziabad is actually fun! Apart from the East Delhi Mall, there is also a Pacific mall in the Anand Vihar region. Granted that what you find in the malls here is something you could easily find at the malls in Delhi, there is still a wide range of shopping opportunities compared to the other neighbouring cities.
One of the temples of the very popular chains of ISKCON temples spread all around India, this one in Ghaziabad is also very special. The aartis performed during morning and evenings are something which cannot be missed. Devotees dance to the music of “Hare Krishna Hare Ram”. The evenings see a fountain show on display which should not be missed.
If you are looking for a quiet and tranquil spot and a place with wide open space, head on to Masuri. This spot is popular for picnics and makes for a great outdoor hangout spot. This place is a must visit if you are visiting with your family or a group of friends. Nothing special or significant, but just the tranquility of the place and the open green space makes it a refreshing and relaxing outing.
It would be wrong on your part to go into Ghaziabad expecting too much of the city. Keep your expectations and take pleasure in the little of what the city offers its visitors.
